NIMBY

Settling in at NIMBY^2

The new NIMBY is coming together.  As you can imagine, the post-move-in aftermath at NIMBY^2 looked like Sunday morning on the playa.  Containers, tool boxes, air-compressors and giant pieces of who-knows-what strewn everywhere.  Countless hours of forklifting, drawing of plans and sorting out all the random piles of stuff have brought us a lot closer to being ready for people to play at NIMBY once again.

This week we are busy in meetings with the city planners, building inspectors and fire marshals.  We are working hard to get everything squared away so we can be fully up and running quickly.  NIMBY^2 is looking forward to soon hosting it’s first event in the new space.

None of this would have been possible without the support of the more than a thousand people who answered NIMBY’s call for help.  You are what made NIMBY^2 happen and you are what will breath life into 10 more years of the chaotic, ginourmous, and ridiculous space we all need.  The door is always open to anyone who wants to paint, organize, and help create the new NIMBY.

Here are some images of us settling in.  Come visit and see for yourself.

NIMBY is Moved

We made the move.  It only took 40 semi-truck loads, 5 fork-lifts, countless volunteers and even more pizza - but the entirety of NIMBY has successfully relocated to it’s new Amelia Street home.  The old space was emptied, stripped, and swept out by the December 31st deadline.  NIMBY has once again shown that artists can do it on a deadline.

NIMBY could not have done it without the hundreds of people who donated money, sent emails, drove trucks, operated forklifts and brought by food for other volunteers.  The show of community support has been incredible.  Many people have already stopped by to check out the new space.  If you have not seen it yet, come by and check out what you helped to make possible.

8410 Amelia Street, East Oakland

January is going to be a month of organzing containers, working with the City of Oakland for permits, and figuring out how to set up the new shop spaces.  We have trash collection, power and internet getting hooked up this week.  With the larger space the bills are going to be enourmous - so we want to get up and running as quickly as possible.  If you have not given your support yet - we can still put your donation to very good use paying the bills while we get our “containers in a row.”
