Just moved back here after two years away. Haven’t unpacked most of my stuff. Borrowed costumes from friends and took my boyfriend to the NIMBY party (we dressed as gypsies) and within ten minutes we were told by a guy in a sailor suit (who seemed connected to NIMBY somehow) that our costumes weren’t good enough (as in “you can’t just put on old Ren Faire shit” and told to go get zombie makeup applied to us. We actually spent money we didn’t have to get in and contribute to your fundraiser, and I was really sad that that was my guy’s first experience of a Bay Area party. I wanted to blow it off and have fun there, but it ended up ruining the night for him. If you happen to know who that guy is, would you do me a favor and ask him to go easier on people? One just never knows what others’ circumstances are, or how you will affect them. Given that it was a fundraiser, you’d think he might have just thanked us for coming. Anyhoo, I do hope you guys raised some cash, I’ve heard you do great things there.
No one is sure who the guy in the sailor suit was. Few things to make you feel better (1) Snook, the guy that runs NIMBY, did not have a costume on at all (2) the sailor was probably kidding (3) The Zombie photo booth was $5 bucks - which is probably why the sailor was joking with you
